True Tale Set to a Powerful Musical Score of Ballads and Jazz and Blues Numbers, Jan. 11-21
In a thrilling blend of history, romance, and criminal escapades, TheatreZone in Naples, Florida, is set to captivate audiences with its rendition of Bonnie & Clyde: The Musical. Running from January 11 to 21, this electrifying performance promises to bring to life the legendary tale of Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, set against a backdrop of Tony Award-nominated music composed by the iconic Frank Wildhorn.
Plot Unveiled
The narrative, expertly woven by Ivan Menchell, explores the youthful fantasies that tragically unravel for the infamous duo. Bonnie, portrayed by the talented Brittany Ambler, is a starry-eyed 20-year-old waitress yearning for fame as an actress, poet, and singer. Clyde, played by Robert Koutras, romanticizes the likes of Billy the Kid and Al Capone, envisioning a life of luxury through daring bank and store robberies.
Their paths collide after Clyde’s prison break, and their shared dreams of larger-than-life destinies spark a passionate romance. As Clyde leads the duo on a spree that escalates from robberies to murder, their thrilling adventure spirals into a harrowing tale of fame, notoriety, and an inevitable demise.
A Symphony of Emotions
The musical's heartbeat lies in the powerful score by Frank Wildhorn, known for his work in Jekyll & Hyde, Civil War, and Dracula. Mark Danni, the founding artistic director of TheatreZone, notes, “The music in Bonnie & Clyde is rousing and dramatic, evoking the era and capturing the relationships between the couples.” The beautiful orchestration by John McDaniel features instruments such as guitar, mandolin, banjo, violin, flute, and more, enhancing the emotional depth of the musical.
Composer Frank Wildhorn and lyricist Don Black earned acclaim with a 2012 Tony Award nomination for "Best Original Score" and 2012 Drama Desk Awards nominations for "Outstanding Music" and "Outstanding Lyrics."
