About Naples Garden Club: A Legacy of Conservation and Community
Founded in 1953 by a group of 33 dedicated Naples residents, the Naples Garden Club began with a shared passion for horticulture, floral design, and the environment. From its early days, the club has committed itself to uplifting the community through a mix of education, conservation, and engagement. As Naples has grown, so has NGC’s impact, now marking its 70th anniversary with over $1.5 million donated to more than 50 civic and nonprofit organizations.
With the first House & Garden Tour held in 1955, NGC has turned the annual event into an intricately coordinated production requiring year-round planning. Dedicated club members volunteer as tour guides and educators, ensuring each attendee gains a deep appreciation for both the homes and gardens on display and the club’s broader mission.
Environmental Initiatives and Community Partnerships
Over the years, NGC has embarked on numerous projects that benefit the Naples community. From supporting the Naples Botanical Garden and creating educational gardens for children and seniors to preserving natural spaces and restoring Naples’ shoreline, the club’s environmental impact is widely celebrated. One of the club’s crowning achievements was its 1980s collaboration with the City of Naples to save the landscaped medians of 6th Street from being converted to parking spaces, a move that earned NGC a prestigious civic award and set a precedent for landscaping preservation in Southwest Florida.
The NGC Idea Garden, developed in partnership with Naples Botanical Garden, continues to serve as an educational haven for home gardeners, inspiring visitors with creative displays and eco-friendly landscaping concepts. In addition, NGC funds an annual research fellowship at Florida Gulf Coast University to advance local conservation efforts and encourage a new generation of horticultural scholars.
Today, the Naples Garden Club is a vibrant volunteer-driven organization and a respected member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. and the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs. Through its dedication to teamwork, education, and environmental stewardship, the NGC continues to build upon the legacy of its founders and enhance the quality of life in Naples.
For those passionate about Naples’ natural beauty and innovative garden design, the 2025 House & Garden Tour promises an unforgettable day of inspiration, education, and delight. Mark your calendars for ticket sales, and join the Naples Garden Club in celebrating another year of blooming brilliance and community impact.
