Alexander Shelley has been appointed as the Sharon and Timothy Ubben Artistic and Music Director of Artis—Naples. His tenure in this role will commence during the 2024-25 season, but he will work with Artis—Naples as the Artistic and Music Director Designate throughout the 2023-24 season. As the Artistic and Music Director, Shelley will provide artistic leadership for the Naples Philharmonic and the entire multidisciplinary organization, including The Baker Museum. He takes over from Andrey Boreyko, who completed his tenure in 2022.
This is the first titled position for Shelley in the United States. Alongside his new role at Artis—Naples, he will continue to serve as the Music Director of Canada’s National Arts Centre Orchestra and as the Principal Associate Conductor of London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, positions he has held since 2015.
Lynne Haarlow, Artis—Naples Board member and Chair of Search Committee, expressed her excitement about Shelley's appointment, saying that the entire search committee was thrilled to have chosen an engaging and talented artistic leader in Alexander. She commended the committee for their dedication and thoughtfulness throughout the selection process.
